Hyderabad blasts

Hyderabad blasts could be a reaction to executions of Kasab and Afzal - Home Minister

If this is true, we're in a very dangerous situation. Leave alone Kasab, he is just an insignificant cog in the giant wheel. Afzal has masterminded the attack on the seat of power of India which in effect is a war against our country. If his execution has triggered people to take revenge through some random bomb blasts, then it shows there are so many such enemies of India within India and they can perpetrate an act of war anytime they want to.

'Proportionate Response'

Pakistan has displayed its yet another barbaric act and India, as always, has condemned the attack.

We will talk about this angrily for a few days and then we'll move on. The proof - Indian Foreign Minister has conveyed it already. A proportionate response. What does he mean by Proportionate Response?

Condemnation in Media, calling up the envoy, 'talking' to them?

What did we do to the Pakistan Army when 93,000 of them led by Gen. Niazi surrendered in 1971 to Indian Army and Mukhti Bahini guerrilas? NOTHING. We treated them with dignity and extended them a safe passage to retreat.

And what we got in return? Innumerable instances proving Pakistan doesn't deserve any respect or dignity.

I could only compare India-Pakistan with Israel-Palestine. Shouldn't we take a leaf out of Israel's defense forces guide book? FIGHT HARD NOT TO WIN BUT TO DESTROY THE ENEMY. What Israel did when Hezbollah  killed 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped 2? Israel Defense Forces' Special Operations was executed within Lebanon borders and destroyed Hezbollah's outposts and missile capabilities.

And what we are doing? Peace talks, Visa extension, pleading for MFN status, PLAYING CRICKET (and losing there too, thanks to a shameless team). Even after 13 years, we don't accept that Capt. Saurabh Kalia was killed and his body was mutilated by Pakistani intruders. We accept without any guilt, that he was died of bad weather. We're not even going after those that attacked our Parliament leave alone going after someone outside our country.

When we were forced to fight against Pakistan in 1948, we won the war but our brilliant PM that time, drew a line called Line of Control. How is that different from International border when India cannot cross that but Pakistan can come up to that point legitimately?

Israel was confronted by Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt in 1967 in what is called SIX DAYS war. Israel not only won the war but captured the Gaza Strip, Sinai, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights. And for India, it's only on enemy that time.

Do we ever going to develop a spine to stand up against Pakistan? Never. We'll always talk, talk, talk and talk.

It  is a shame that the nation that had a great statesman who wrote ARTHASASTRA doesn't even have a vision for a secured nation.

The Hindu : Opinion / Lead : Conquering the fear of the setting sun

There is nothing patriarchal about returning home before dark.  Even for guys venturing out in dark is fraught with risks. Rape or sexual assault is not the only crime that darkness encourages. It's the plain fact that in darkness you can get away with crime that encourages even the borderline criminals to cross over the border of decency by miles.

By venturing into darkness you're inviting more possibilities of getting mugged, getting robbed, getting kidnapped, and many more gender neutral crimes. And it is nothing uncommon to carry pepper spray, even in the most gender neutral societies.

Although we wish the society is just, it's a bitter truth we all need to accept, that it is not.
